Pursue our research in the mid - 1970s CB craze we will look at what were considered the elites antennas when he came to have a CB configuration. Truckers can have held roads and 19 channels, it was everyday enthusiasts who ruled waves of his house and rule, which they did.
If you were on CB and really wanted to impress people with your voice booming over the airwaves you have no choice but to set a base unit. Not only were the units themselves but powerful antennas that people put up on their roof ToPS might have given some rival television stations a run for their money.
It was not easy to choose a CB antenna for your base station. There was a lot to choose and they had their cure-all and defects.
One of the most powerful, yet more frustrating was the most popular Raker Moon. Just a beam antenna that looked very similar to having more than 3 elements mounted on a base counter 11 TV antennas. These were called regular Rakers moon. However, there was beam antennas which had up to six items on them. They were referred to as a moon Raker 6. These things were enormous. The problem with them was that they were directional antennas. This means that depending on the direction of your antenna was pointing that was where you have your best reception and transmission. So if you were talking to someone who was South of you and your antenna was pointing to the North you need to turn 180 degrees antenna to get a decent home. This got to be a pain after a long time. Interesting side was that these antennas were so powerful that they could cut across otherwise whatsoever, once you've had your updated target zero.
Another popular base antenna was what it was called the "Big Stick". That was just a very long antenna fiberglass. They were usually about 10 to 15 feet long. They were not as powerful as the Raker Moon, but they transmitted and received all equally well from all directions and therefore were all great goal antenna base, especially if you were in a center where you've had a number of people, you might talk about in all directions. Also, big sticks were relatively cheap next to a moon Raker who sold for hundreds of dollars. A Big Stick was approximately $ 70.
For people who have a budget very large, there was base station antennas facts which were not much larger than their mobile counterparts honestly. When you consider the lack of power of these offices into account against the price of about $ 50, it makes much more sense to go with a Big Stick.
The biggest problem with all these antennas, especially in the old days was that they have been constantly interfering with TV reception. Today with cable, things are not quite as bad.
Even if the CB is not as popular with owners, as some 30 years ago, you always see these bad boys on the roof tops if you look pretty close. Simply make sure that you stop the car first before at one-eye.
