That stands for Universal Serial Bus USB is a standard communication series between computers and other devices. It was introduced in 1996 and has been jointly promoted by Intel, Phillips, US Robotics, Microsoft. USB was developed so that different types of devices may be housed under one common interface. Due to this feature, USB devices today are the most popular form of plug-and-play devices. In short, a plug-and-play device is an external device that connect to the computer for data transfer or to provide additional capabilities to the computer. Normally plug-and-play devices are used with additional software that acts as a link between the device and the computer's processor. This software is called the driver.
Many other standards exist for these connections as the PS2, but devices provide a net benefit on other standards, mainly because of two important reasons.
First, the standard USB allows devices be connected to the computer without restarting the computer. Many previous standards, the computer should be restarted before the system could be utilisé.Deuxièmement, USB device takes its power directly from the CPU, thus eliminating the need for an external power supply cord. It was only possible because that USB devices consume generally very little energy.
Today, USB devices are used for many purposes. Most popular adaptation of USB devices is in disk USB (also called pen drives) .This essentially are devices that provide portable data storage facilities. These devices are often too small as a keychain. With the advent of technology, USB drives can now store provided 200 GB of data and still appear very weak.
Another important USB use is for webcams which will allow us to transmit and store photos and videos directly on our ordinateurs.Hormis these uses, USB can also connect devices such as iPod, audio microphones and speakers, network between different computers with USB routers and provides also an interface to link our other gadgets such as mobile phones and PDA.Avec Windows, more and more often, now simpler synchronize our gadgets such as windows can recognize and automatically install our USB.Une device another new technology that makes waves is USB2.0, which provides speeds up to 480 (megabytes per second) data transfer.
