In short, a plug-and-play device is an external device that connect to the computer for data transfer or to provide additional capabilities to the computer. Normally plug-and-play devices are used with additional software that acts as a link between the device and the computer's processor. This software is called the driver.
Many other standards exist for these connections as the PS2, but devices provide a net benefit on other standards, mainly because of two important reasons.
